West Marin Weekend

We braved the coastal fog on the Fourth for a quick trip over the hill to Bolinas. Our destination was the Coast Cafe and a plate of fish and chips. Surprisingly, though, the little town that prefers anonymity was full up. Main street was wall-to-wall locals, some bbq-ing off the bed of a pickup parked next to Smileys, many others celebrating the holiday on a more liquid diet.

The cafe had plenty of outdoor tables, but the wind was cold and the wait for inside too long, so we motored down the lagoon to Stinson and found a table right off at the Sand Dollar. A trio of fish tacos, two Arnold Palmers and a juicy burger later, we left happy, refreshed and with one tidbit of news: The folks who run the Sand Dollar have taken over operation of their longtime competitor across Highway 1, the Stinson Beach Cafe. Look for a welcome upgrade in the menu and the cocktails.
