A violin painted and signed by The Jefferson Airplane’s Grace Slick and an electric guitar signed by four members of the Rolling Stones were donated to the Marin History Museum by John and Maria Pitcairn, who have lived in Ross since the mid ’60s, this week. “Maria and I have had a long term interest and love for music,” said John Pitcairn in a recent release. “We are thrilled to be able to offer these artifacts to Marin Rocks as we appreciate the importance and value of the music that has been part of Marin County’s history.”
John is past president and Board Chairman of the Marin Symphony and a member of the Board of the San Francisco Opera while Maria taught communications and physical education at Redwood High for 30 years. The instruments will become part of the collection for the Museum’s Marin Rocks exhibition scheduled to open fall 2010 in downtown San Rafael.
